Zalando pushes for start-ups with collaborative platform
Online fashion giant Zalando is looking to get start-ups onboard with a new platform, Zalando Build, which will integrate them within the wider Zalando infrastructure. The new initiative will host tech solutions and innovations from start-ups in the areas of “personalization and inspiration, focusing on content, sizing and styling.” Zalando will work closely with selected partners to make sure the site pays off, providing startups with the “relevant APIs needed to integrate on the site.”

Marc Lamik, head of partnerships at Zalando, said:
“Creating a better customer journey means providing a more inspiring and personalised fashion experience. With Zalando Build, we will partner up with the fashion ecosystem by integrating start-up solutions and innovations into the Zalando fashion store.
“Our Zalando Build partners will get the opportunity to integrate their content or experiences in the Zalando fashion store and reach millions of consumers across Europe. Start-ups can leverage our size and market reach, while co-operating with start-ups gives us the possibility to implement new products and services much faster and try out new things.”
This is a canny move by Zalando, which will see it exchange its significant visibility economy of scale in exchange for tech benefits and online testing grounds for new products and services that could help it outpace the competition in the near-to-mid term.
Dominion holds Zalando in its Global Trends Luxury Fund.
