Xylem: digital water is “already here”
Xylem Inc., the world’s leading water technology platform, says that digital water is already here. By “digital water” Xylem means the impact of new smart technologies on water infrastructure – something the company has long championed as a vital way of tracking and conserving water along its lifecycle. And it’s come to this conclusion thanks to a recent study that it conducted in tandem with the International Water Association, which studied 40 water utilities around the world.

The report shows how 40 industry leaders in the water utility space are leveraging new digital technologies to solve water affordability, scarcity and resilience. It makes for positive reading, and no doubt helps to confirm Xylem’s long-held belief that smart water tech is a crucial part of the puzzle for “solving water” (the company’s motto).
Kalanithy Vairavamoorthy, the IWA’s executive director, writes: “The dawn of the digital water economy will prove transformational in enabling the water sector and its customers to transition towards a new paradigm for urban water management. The paper offers utilities a roadmap to assess where they are in their digital journey, and what steps they can take in order to cultivate their digital maturity.”
Xylem’s CEO, Patrick Decker, added: “It has been our great honor to work with the International Water Association and Water Foundry to engage in this in-depth examination of data and water. No one can solve water alone. By tracing the digital journey and capturing the experiences of dozens of utility pioneers, we are starting a dialogue and building a body of knowledge that can inform and inspire water managers from around the globe.”
