World’s largest catering group gets new boss
Compass Group, the world’s largest catering company, is seeing change at the top – but it’s hoping that it will be seamless. CEO Richard Cousins is stepping down from his role next year, on 03 March 2018. Cousins will retire from the company completely on September 30 of the same year. He will be succeeded by the company’s chief operating officer for Europe, Dominic Blakemore, who will spend the next six months working alongside Cousins to “learn the ropes” and ensure an easy transition.
The company’s chairman, Paul Walsh, paid homage to outgoing CEO Cousins, and reiterated that his replacement was the right man for the job. He told industry publication The Caterer:
“It has been a pleasure to work with Richard and on behalf of the board, I want to thank him for his extraordinary contribution to the group. In the past 11 years Richard has transformed Compass into an industry leading organisation that delivers excellent food services to our clients, attracts and develops great people and generates significant returns for our shareholders.
“Dominic’s appointment is the result of a rigorous succession process. Dominic joined Compass Group in 2012 and has already contributed significantly to the Group as CFO for four years and for the past two years as chief operating officer Europe. Dominic has the leadership skills combined with the industry and operational experience to build on the Group’s strong track record, and as CEO to lead Compass to continued future success.”
Cousins said he was “grateful” to his team for helping him to turn Compass Group into a “world class business”, and that he was “looking forward to working closely” with his replacement. He added that he was confident Blakemore would “lead the group to even greater success in the future.”
