Tencent named world’s fourth most innovative company

Chinese Ecommerce giant Tencent has been named the world’s fourth most innovative company in a Fast Company’s 2018 edition of the World’s Most Innovative Companies. The New York-based publisher is a go-to authority on innovation in business, and said that Tencent managed to move from twelfth spot all the way up to fourth in a single year. The reason, Fast Company explained, was that the Chinese giant is “honoring content as king”.

Tencet’s empire extends throughout the mobile internet world. It is the unquestioned king of mobile gaming, owning the world’s most popular mobile game, Honour of Kings, as well as many others. At time of writing, the company is planning to turn Honour of Kings into a worldwide phenomenon.

Equally important – if not more so – is Tencent’s messaging service WeChat. The company has taken what could have simply been a “just another messenger” and turned it into an incredibly powerful platform that distributes various media through it network, includes Ecommerce, and has 980 million monthly active users.

Big names from the tech world have been impressed by Tencent’s moves over the past year. In a recent investor conference, Snapchat’s CEO Evan Spiegel told investors: “Tencent has shown great foresight in seeing the power of communication. If you can provide the most frequently used service on people's phones, you can develop many other businesses centring around the service."
