Samsonite gives online shopping platform a boost with Cappasity product visualisation

Samsonite, the world’s leading luggage manufacturer, has announced that it will be making a significant improvement to its online retail stores in the US with the addition of Cappasity’s 3D product imaging software. Cappasity is the leader in the field of 3D product visualisation – a novel new way to blend actual and virtual realities and make the online shopping experience more worthwhile. Cappasity will create 3D product visualisations of a number of Samsonite’s bags (including brands like American Tourister, Hartman, and High Sierra) – letting customers get a feel for them without actually having to, well… feel them.

Jay Nigrelli, Samsonite’s vice president of ecommerce, took the time to explain why the company was exploring product visualisation: “It is important for our customers to have the opportunity to examine the goods in detail, and 3D visualization allows us to bridge the gap between online shopping and brick-and-mortar stores. We chose Cappasity because their solution allows us to share comprehensive product information with our customers.”

Cappasity’s CEO, Kosta Popov, described the news as “the beginnings of a fruitful partnership,” and added some detail over the tech: “Not only does our platform showcase products in 3D, it also demonstrates the way customers interact with the items. The data gathered is unique and invaluable for marketeers since 3D View is the only format to provide feedback based on customer-product interaction.”

Samsonite has been a pioneer of design for more than a century, but in more recent years, the company has made a concerted effort to force through a digital transformation. That’s seen it embrace ecommerce to the detriment of rivals. With new innovations for its online store, that success story is likely to continue.
