Royal Caribbean want to hire an Instagrammer
Every summer, and often throughout winter too, our social media feeds are often full of people enjoying their holidays, exploring foreign countries, soaking up the sun and just having a great time. Well, Royal Caribbean are now looking for a particularly social-savvy person to come on one of their luxury cruises and Instagram their experience.
The global cruise company are known for providing luxurious and fun cruise holidays to individuals, couples and families to take them all over the world. And, they are now offering one lucky person the chance to have one of the best short-term jobs anyone could think of.
Royal Caribbean are looking to find someone to fill an Instagram ‘Internship of the Seas’. This will see the successful candidate cruising on their ships for three weeks this summer with all expenses paid by the company, including food drink, accommodation flights and out-of-pocket expenses, as well as a £3,000 bonus.
It almost sounds too good to be true and like something from a film, but it is true. In return for this summer of leisure and relaxation, the candidate will be tasked with capturing the stories, experiences and destinations of their cruise holiday through their smartphone and social media picture-sharing site, Instagram.
You are obviously now thinking ‘where do I apply?’ and the cruise company are taking applications solely through Instagram, with the aim of finding an ‘extraordinary explorer’, to capture the real spirit of their cruise holidays.
This is an excellent piece of marketing, as it is sure to at least get people talking about what an opportunity it would be for someone to spend their summer. But, Royal Caribbean’s focus on social media as a way of influencing people shows just how much importance companies are placing in the platform.
The decision to run this Instagram experience and opportunity came after the company commissioned a poll into whether or not social media is overtaking traditional channels of inspiration like brochures and websites.
The poll of 2,000 UK and Ireland consumers revealed that 48% of holidaymakers rely on social media for inspiration when they book their holidays. Also, 34% said they would not consider booking a trip without consulting social media.
Ben Bouldin, Royal Caribbean’s managing director for UK and Ireland, said: "With 25 of the world's most innovative and spectacular ships visiting over 250 destinations worldwide every year, our guests can experience multiple destinations and cultures, all during the one holiday.
"Our cruise holidays are filled with extraordinary moments and we want to find a talented storyteller who can help us capture those unique moments and share them through one of the most inspirational social media platforms."
