Marriott reveal location of new headquarters
Having a well-organised and functioning central base for a business is key as this is where big decisions are made that can affect a business that spans the globe. This is the case for the world’s largest hotel company, Marriott, and they have just announced the site that they will build their new headquarters on, in the state of Maryland.
They have hotels under their different brands in everywhere from Saudi Arabia to Singapore and Jamaica to Japan, but Marriott have settled on downtown Bethesda, in Maryland, as the best location for their new headquarters.
Marriott had announced in October that they had narrowed down the shortlist of potential locations to four areas, with one of them being downtown Bethesda. Now, they have announced that the two-block site at 7750 Wisconsin Avenue will be the location of its new $660 million campus.
A press release from Marriott, said: ‘The new headquarters will provide a cutting-edge workspace for Marriott’s associates, offering state-of-the-art technology, modern amenities and access to a range of transportation options. The new offices will meet green building standards, allow abundant natural light and provide the company’s associates new opportunities for flexible, collaborative work spaces. The campus will also offer a childcare center for associates, a fitness center and a cafeteria.’
Clearly, the decision by Marriott to settle in Bethesda is a huge coup for the city and the state of Maryland as a whole. The site, on Wisconsin Avenue, currently houses the Bethesda Court Hotel, but will soon be home to Marriott’s entire campus, which includes a 22-story office building, as well as a 200-room hotel.
Marriott have stated that this new hotel that is being built alongside the campus, ‘will feature over 8,000 square feet of flexible meeting and ballroom space for meetings, banquets and conferences, and a variety of dining and social amenities, including a ground-floor restaurant with outdoor dining, a specialty coffee shop and a seasonal rooftop dining terrace.’
The hotel giants expect final project agreements to be finalised over the next few months, with the site anticipated to be opening in 2022.
