Marriott open stunning resort in Marco Island
Marriott have, through innovation, excellent branding, and a series of mergers and acquisitions, become the world’s largest hotel group. With properties in all of the world’s most luxurious destinations they offer a wide range of accommodation and they have now opened their latest beach resort on Marco Island in Florida.
The Marco Island Marriott Beach Resort has been undergoing a series of major changes over the last eighteen months, as the hotel got a re-brand and an upgrade. Based on Florida’s gulf coast, not too far south of Naples, the resort, golf club and spa, has been flooded with designers, architects and builders as they completed a $320 million brand conversion.
The upgrading of the facility has come in three stages. Firstly, they expanded the pool decks, refurbished the lobby along with the hotel’s grand entrance. Secondly they transformed all guest rooms so they are unrecognisable from their previous states and created two new signature restaurants – Ario and Maia, as well as a beachfront tiki bar named Kane.
However, there is still some work to do, as the final part of the upgrade, a 94-room adults-only tower, complete with rooftop pool, entertainment centre, restaurant and meeting space, is set to be completed by the end of autumn this year.
Rick Medwedeff, general manager of the Marco Island facility, said: “This brand conversion brings to fruition years of planning, dedication and hard work, and I could not be more pleased. As we move forward into the next chapter of our resort's story, we are embracing our celebrated past and welcoming a new level of luxury by joining JW Marriott's global portfolio of exceptional properties."
Marriott have revealed that the new facility’s culinary offerings will include private sommelier-led wine tastings and chef’s table experiences at signature restaurant, Ario.
Mitzi Gaskins, vice president of luxury brand management at Marriott, said: “Marriott Marco Island is an optimal addition to our brand's global portfolio. We look forward to offering guests a distinctive and enriching luxury experience set on three miles of pristine white sand beach on the Gulf of Mexico."
