Live Nation’s Rapino named most impactful executive in music by Pollstar
Michael Rapino, the CEO of live entertainment powerhouse Live Nation, has been named the most impactful man in music by Pollstar, a live business industry publication. Rapino was named as one of the magazine’s inaugural “Impact 50” which attempts to “acknowledge individuals who will most impact the live entertainment industry in the coming year.” While Pollstar notes that the list doesn’t technically rank individuals, it goes on to add: “Michael Rapino, President and CEO of Live Nation Entertainment, would be at the top of any list of executives who impact not only the live music business, but the music business, period, and the entertainment business at large.”

Rapino spoke to reporters at Pollstar in an extended interview. Discussing the effects of the internet on pop culture and the live entertainment business, he painted a positive picture of Live Nation’s market, saying:
“You look at it in terms of supply and demand. Demand is greater than ever. For any business, that’s a good thing. Thankfully, in Milan, Dubai, Cape Town, there’s a 19-year-old saying, “I want to go see Billie Eilish,” and that didn’t exist before. So you have a global marketplace now that says, “I want to be part of this live experience in a great venue or a great festival.”
Most industries would pray their business was lit up by a global demand that you don’t even have to advertise to, they wanna do it.
So what’s the supply side? Again, you look at the data. Whether it’s people playing guitar, local clubs, the explosion of small clubs across America, more bands playing in more clubs today or more artists on the road. So all the data would say there’s new Billie Eilishes coming up every day.”
Dominion holds Live Nation in its Global Trends Luxury Fund. Share price as-at 20 May 2019.
