LinkedIn names Alibaba as China’s best employer

Enterprise-facing social media site LinkedIn is a force to be reckoned with in the corporate world, as 95% of recruitment professionals use it to make hires. As a result, businesses take its recommendations seriously. That’s why it’s good news for Chinese tech giant Alibaba that it’s been named as the country’s best employer!

This marks the first time that LinkedIn has brought its Top Companies ranking to China – but it is unlikely to be the last, as the world’s second-largest economy continues to become more and more important to business worldwide.

The way the list is compiled is through studying which companies job-seekers hold long-term aspirations to work at. LinkedIn released details of how its data scientists and editorial team analyse the behaviours of its Chinese users, saying they are assessed in four ways:

First, the level of interest in a company generally (as in how many non-staff visitors its LinkedIn profile gets). Second, interest in the company’s employees (how many visits the LinkedIn profiles of its staff members get). Third, job demand (how many people are viewing and responding to job ads?). And finally, its retention rates (how long employees stay with the company).

LinkedIn said its list was compiled from companies with more than 500 employees, which have shown growth over the past year. Alibaba, for frame of reference, has roughly 100,000 employees, and, in the third quarter of fiscal 2019 (which it reported at the end of January), the company saw revenue growth of 41%.
