Kering hosts Ethical Fashion Event in Paris
Global luxury leader Kering joined forces with the British Fashion Council and London College of Fashion to host a networking event designed to further knowledge of sustainable style in Paris this month. The event was held in a fittingly luxurious location, at the residence of Britain’s ambassador to France, Edward Llewellyn. The tone of the day was simple: Kering thinks that fashion needs to build a “more eco-resistant” business model.

Kering’s chief sustainability officer, Marie-Claire Daveu, told reporters “Inside Kering, we have a feeling that sustainability is key.” Daveu is also in charge of the luxury group’s institutional affairs, and was a driving force in putting the event together. In addition to Daveu, other speakers in attendance included Claire Bergkamp (head of sustainability and ethical trade for Stella McCartney), who shared a platform with her. They stressed the importance of “research and development” in building a better, more environmentally responsible, fashion business.
The event was moderated by Godfrey Deeny, editor in chief of Fashionnetwork.com, and included contributions from a number of other influential figures, such as Frances Corner of the London College of Fashion, and Tamsin Lejeune of the Ethical Fashion Forum.
The ambassador was pleased to see sustainability being discussed in his residence. He told WWD: “It’s fantastic, this historic residence. It’s been the British ambassador’s residence for over 200 years, but all the time it is doing new things, every week, and this is a good example of that, taking the issue of sustainability seriously in the very important world of fashion during this very important week.”
