Expedia wants to help you track down the Yeti
No, that’s not a clever metaphor. The online travel kingpin really does want to help its customers track down the Yeti. As well as numerous other mythical beasts like the Ninki-Nanka, Unicorns, or the rarely heard of Impundulu Bird (thanks, Zulu mythology!). You can find Expedia’s recommendations for where to go to track these wondrous beasties in the company’s new online travel guide, which includes a mythical creatures map.
Check out a screenshot of the map below
The map is easy to use – you just click on one of the beasts, and get taken to a page with an image of said beasty and the requisite lore. It’s a but of fun that might, at the least, get your kids interested in your trip to China: maybe they’ll see a Unicorn?
Expedia’s share price is also going on a fantastic journey this year

Expedia, which has seen its share price rise by 32.8% so far this year, features the following, tantalizing, suggestion on its website:
“If you’re already wondering where to go on your travels, why not ditch the predictable and try something a little more… mysterious. How about hitting the vampire trail in Romania, tracking Bigfoot in Oregon or even dragon-hunting in Wales? The world is full of wonderful tales of mythical creatures, but sadly few travellers are intrepid enough to take to the road to find them.”
Of course, there is more to it that that: Expedia is also recommending various travel solutions to help you on your magical quest of discovery, as well as numerous other sites to see. If, for example, you want to chase down the mysterious Ningen in Antarctica, you will get the following piece of advice (amongst others):
“Taking a boat tour through the cold waters which surround this remarkably friendly and relaxed city is an essential part of any stay here – even if you're more interested in the area's local penguin population than its more other-worldly underwater inhabitants. From breath-taking views and breweries, to museums and nearby islands, there are plenty of amazing places to visit in Puntas Arenas, when you're not tracking the mysterious Ningen.”
And of course, if you decide to visit any of those other “amazing places”? Yeah, you can book them through Expedia by following a few simple links. It’s just a clever way to get families engaged with their holidays, and organize a truly compelling travel planner. Innovative marketing like this is no doubt one of the reasons Expedia has outperformed the market so dramatically so far this year.
