Eurofins expanding into Japanese market
Eurofins Scientific, the global laboratory group that services the pharmaceutical, food testing, and environmental analytics industries, has pushed further into Japan with two new acquisitions. The companies in question, Japan Analytical Chemistry Consultants Co. (JACC) and Ecopro Research K. K. (Ecopro), will reinforce Eurofins’ position in the pesticide residue food market, and get the laboratory group an entrance into the Japanese agroscience sector. The acquisitions themselves were, in each case, for an undisclosed amount.

JACC is “one of the biggest independent GLP pesticide residue laboratories for agrochemical-registration,” and it has more than 40 years of experience in the chemical testing arena. The company is accredited by the Japanese Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries (MAFF), and analyses river water, air and soil for pesticides, amongst other things.
Ecopro, meanwhile, compliments Eurofins’ local food testing capacity in Japan, and holds accreditation from MAFF and the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW). The services it provides include pesticide residue testing, nutrition analyses, and microbiology testing.
Dr. Gilles Martin, Eurofins CEO, said that the acquisitions would strengthen Eurofins’ growing footprint in the Asia Pacific region:
“The acquisitions of JACC and Ecopro have a good strategic fit with Eurofins’ existing food and agroscience testing businesses and will help to expand our offerings in Japan. We look forward to providing JACC and Ecopro access to the full capabilities of the Eurofins network.”
