Dufry win Channel Islands deal

Most people know Dufry as the company they turn to when they want to pick up a luxury treat from the duty-free outlet at the airport they are passing through. And, those who don’t know them have probably shopped there too! Now, the company have revealed a new long-term deal to expand at a Channel Islands airport.

Whether it’s perfume, jewellery or a pair of designer sunglasses that shoppers are looking for, Dufry have a lot of the market locked off, as they own so many huge retail spaces in most regions.

Because of this, they are always looking to keep their space at these airports, and expand where possible. Now, Dufry have announced that World Duty Free, one of their retail brands, has agreed a new 10-year contract to extend their stay and expand in Jersey Airport in the Channel Islands.

The new arrangement, which will come into force from as soon as the beginning of March, will result in an increase in the size of World Duty Free’s retail space, from 260 square metres to 750 square metres.

Julian Diaz, CEO of Dufry, said: “We are extremely pleased to have reached this agreement with Ports of Jersey and would like to thank the management team for renewing their trust in World Duty Free and Dufry.

“We have always worked in close partnership and value the relationship we have built up over the years. We’ve demonstrated that we have the capability to offer landlords state-of-the-art retail solutions and we look forward to creating a fantastic store at the airport and introducing exciting new products for our regular Jersey customers – as well as the many visitors attracted by all that Jersey has to offer.”

Dufry have stated that the extension and increased shopping space will be used to introduce ‘ ‘new products, more local products and a redevelopment of the retail layout’.

Doug Bannister, CEO of the Ports of Jersey, said: “After a thorough tender process we are delighted to continue our long standing and successful partnership with World Duty Free.”
