Assa Abloy simplifies specification with BIM

Assa Abloy UK Specifications, a specialist division of the company’s UK branch, is launching a special suite of software to dramatically reduce the complexity of door and hardware specification. A specification, in this instance, is basically a thorough and rigorous description of all the design work and materials that will be required for a particular job – and it can easily become a more complicated task than it needs to be. But Assa Abloy want to change that.

The new software on offer from the security market leaders will be 3D-based building information modeling (BIM) tools. This basically means that it will keep all the information involved in the construction process within a single, coherent, system of computer models, rather than as disparate elements that do not communicate with each other. This will allow people involved in the same construction project to create models that ‘speak’ to each other, and offers the opportunity to eliminate mistakes at the planning stage.

The software will consist of two packages – Opening Studio, and BIM Door Solutions – that can help streamline processes and cut down costs on any type of building project.

Assa Abloy UK Specification director, Tim Checketts, said:

“Whether you choose ready-made BIM Door Solutions packages or a tailored solution through Openings Studio, both tools are designed to simplify specifying and add value at every stage, from design through to construction and beyond.

“BIM is changing the building landscape, bringing with it improvements in design, specification, delivery and asset management. Our tools give our partners more time to focus on what they do best, creating high quality, sustainable buildings, more efficiently and cost effectively.”
