Amazon Prime Video looks to colonise the continent
Amazon Prime Video is making its European debut thanks to a new deal between Amazon and Altice Europe. The latter partner will be making Prime Video available to its SFR customers in France, including the app in its TV box. This is a big deal for Amazon, which is eager to bring critically acclaimed series like The Marvellous Mrs. Maisel and The Boys to a new audience. SFR customers will also have access to local originals, like Jerome Commandeur: Tout en douceur and popular French and Hollywood movies.

Prime Video will be following Alexa onto the new SFR TV box, and reports suggest the two apps will be fully integrated. It’s clear that Amazon is putting its best foot forward, and it will continue doing so internationally: after the French launch, Altice’s networks in Portugal, Israel, and the Dominican Republic, will follow at an unspecified date.
Altice Europe CEO and Altice France chairman and CEO Alain Weill, said of the partnership: “We’re excited to collaborate with Amazon to deliver its highly-popular content, including Amazon Originals and Exclusives, directly to our consumers. We know our customers want to see their favourite shows and programming on their big screen at home, and our collaboration with streaming services like Amazon continues to make that happen. This collaboration with Amazon reinforces our track record of teaming with the best to give our customers unbeatable content. SFR customers will soon be able to seamlessly search for and watch incredible Amazon Prime Video programming directly from their box in the highest possible quality.”
Amazon’s Prime Video vice president for Europe, Jay Marine, added: “Our collaboration with SFR is fantastic news for our customers in France who will now be able to watch Prime Video on their SFR set-top box with the same remote they use every day, including thousands of movies, TV series, and award-winning Amazon Originals such as the new cult hit The Boys, Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, The Marvelous Mrs Maisel, Good Omens.”
