Yoox Net-A-Porter boss offers insights
Running successful global businesses is a collective effort from everyone in the company, from top to bottom, from executives to engineers. Now, one of the men at the head of fashion ecommerce giants Yoox Net-A-Porter (YNAP) has given an interesting interview about the business.
As you will probably know, online fashion retailers Yoox Group and Net-A-Porter merged in October 2015, creating a huge €1.3 billion business. This coming together of the two large companies created a range of exciting possibilities for what YNAP could now achieve and accomplish.
It is important to remember that YNAP look after a lot more than their own sites (Yoox, Net-A-Porter, Mr Porter and The Outnet). They also manage the websites for a number of luxury fashion brands such as Jimmy Choo, Emporio Armani and Diesel.
Now, Alex Alexander, chief information officer at YNAP, has given an interview to Computer Weekly, where he discusses the firm in detail. He believes that the merger created a huge opportunity to use technology to build a common platform across the YNAP group, whilst also applying digital techniques to the fashion retail sector.
Looking forwards, Alexander said: “The physical business of fashion with the major retailers is not growing as much as the e-commerce part, and all the fashion and luxury retailers realise the future is there. This is a growth business that has a lot of potential.”
Speaking about his role and experiences within a job that combines both fashion and technology, he added: “I am enjoying every minute of it. Luxury and fashion is going through a transformation in how technology is used to reach out to the customer. From my perspective, what’s special is that we are in a unique period in the history of the combined company.
“Technology is going through a shift in innovation. The convergence of mobile, the emergence of artificial intelligence, the greater use of cloud and in-the-moment processing offers flexibility to get closer to the customer.”
Technology is naturally bound to play a huge part in the future of YNAP, as a company so heavily reliant on internet and technology to create sales, and so the decisions Alex Alexander makes could prove vital to the on-going success of the firm.
