Amadeus moves into bus-booking market
Amadeus IT, the information technology company that provides much of the digital infrastructure for the fast growing and extremely lucrative online travel industry, is adding a new service to its portfolio: bus bookings. Amadeus has stated that it wants to make booking busses as easy as it has become to book flights and hotel rooms online. And in order to do so, it has partnered with two high quality providers.

Amadeus has partnered with bus companies Distribusion and Betterez.
Distribusion has more than 300 bus transfer and intercity bus operators in 2500 destinations – and Amadeus’ “single gateway” to access these services will enable travel sellers to “easily broaden their offer, attract new types of customers and drive revenues, all while forgetting about costly one-to-one setup and commercial relationships,” according to the company’s website. Distribusion’s founder and CEO, Julian Hauck, said in a statement:
“Travel sellers are paying more attention to bus travel to continue enriching their offer to travelers, and have been longing to add this kind of content in a simple, standardized, and effective way for some time. The combination of our market-leading bus content with Amadeus’ travel seller network will open the doors to new travelers.”
Betterez, meanwhile, brings “an innovative, end-to-end sales, operation and back-office platform for bus operators,” to the table, according to Amadeus. This platform enhances sales, management, and promotion, and – thanks to its scalable, cloud-based nature – will be a fixture of the bus travel scene for the foreseeable future.
Antione de Kerviler, Amadeus’ head of rail and ground travel, said:
“Travelling by bus is an attractive choice for many, but could be for many more. Bus operators now have a complete package to unlock growth and make a significant footprint in the global travel industry. Our two partnerships with Betterez and Distribusion could not come at a better moment, when new entrants and market dynamics are pushing towards improving the overall offer and experience. Imagine booking a convenient airport bus transfer on top of your flight and a weekend getaway by rail – all on the same itinerary through your travel retailer – this is door-to-door travel at its best.”
