Adidas reveal swimwear made from ocean plastic

Adidas’ products are proving extremely popular amongst millennials, sporting enthusiasts and athletes alike because they are fashionable and high on quality. But, another factor underpinning their success over the last few years has been their constant innovation and commitment to eco-friendly causes. And this looks set to continue with their latest release.

Environmental factors are weighing on decisions across different businesses and sectors more than ever, as people’s awareness and consciousness to the issue is heightened, and consumers tend to support brands that are, or at least seen to be, looking after the environment.

Now, as part of their on-going partnership with Parley for the Oceans, Adidas have unveiled their SS17 Parley swim collection, which have, of course, been made from recycled ocean plastics.

Check out the campaign video produced by the partnership below:

Along with the video, Adidas said: ‘This film is based on a true story. The story of Coralie Balmy, French Olympic freestyle swimmer of Martinique, a Carribean island at threat from Ocean pollution. When Coralie isn’t training, she is working in a marine clinic; using her master’s degree in Ocean Biology to educate others on the devastating effect of man-made pollution on our ecosystems.’

Taking a close look at the products, Swimming World Magazine have reported: ‘Telling the story of its unique composition, the adidas Parley swim collection launches with two distinct designs: a wave print that references the source of its fabric, and a Parley inspired graphic. Uniting form with performance-focused function, both designs are finished with adidas’s unique Infinitex+ Pulse and flat lock seams, enabling the range to be 100% chlorine resistant for endless training support and the highest level of comfort.'

Tim Janaway, general manager of Adidas Heartbeat Sports, said: “Created with the ethos ‘from the oceans, for the oceans’, the Parley swim collection represents our dedication to consistently deliver swim products that protect that waters in which we perform.

“As one of the leading sportswear brands in the world, it is our responsibility to be the guardians of the spaces of sport and this range is testament to the part we can – and should- all play to safeguard the oceans for future generations.”
